5 Online Safety Tips

1. Use Strong Passwords:

Encourage the use of unique and strong passwords for online accounts to enhance security. Include a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.

Good Password Example :

SolarStar26$

Bad Password Example:

sunny123

2. Be Cautious with Personal Information:

Remember to avoid sharing sensitive personal information online, such as addresses, phone numbers, and school details. Other things you should avoid sharing is your name, email, pictures of you or family, passwords, your date of birth, and other social media accounts. You’ll be surprised how easy the bad guys can find you over sharing even one of these examples!

3. Think Before Clicking:

Keep in mind that once you send something on the internet, it stays there forever, even if you delete it. People can download anything you share online, and they can share it with others. Your friends, family, and future employers can easily trace the content shared online that you create, including your enemies or school bullies. Sending hateful messages can easily backfire when it comes down to your current and future reputation.

4. Privacy Settings Awareness:

Be sure to erase “cookies” on your browser whenever you get them. They can be used to track all of your information online including private information. Clearing cookies minimizes the risks for being targets of scams, spammers, and inappropriate content.

5. Open Communication:

If you are being harassed online, be sure to communicate that with your parents, guardians, friends, and family. It’s best to not engage with the trolls. Arguing with them will only make your situation worse and will only cause future troubles. If you are ever threatened online or somebody is harassing you in an inappropriate way, you can contact the authorities or safe to tell for extra help.
